PhD Student

I am a PhD Student in the School of Computing Science, Newcastle University.

My research addresses the problem of creating accurate computer models of neural circuits. Creating a complex model of a neuronal circuit with a combination of models of the individual neurons, involved in the circuit, does not provide accurate results. To investigate this problem I am using the pyloric neuron complex in the stomatogastric ganglion of Cancer pagurus, the Brown Crab. The aim is to collect enough data to be able to create an accurate computer model of the joint activity of the STG neurons using a combination of techniques involving voltage-sensitive dye imaging and intra- and extracellular measurements of the deafferented stomatogastric nervous system.
